The king of dubstep (aka Skrillex) finally emerges from his extended hiatus with the release of his newest track, Voltage, an absolute banger of a song. Skrillex samples lyrics from Benny Benassi’s song Cinema as well as some of his own vocals to build to the massive drop that Sonny Moore (Skrillex’s name) brings to every song. Although the Cinema lyrics are extremely overused, Skrillex does a great job here providing some originality through using them and shows off why he is such a heavy influence in the music industry. Zedd finally releases the extended version of his newest electro anthem, Spectrum, after teasing us with a preview a few weeks ago. Zedd takes angles this track more towards the progressive side of electronic music and absolutely nails it, he features uplifting vocals from Matthew Koma giving this track an upbeat and melodic tone yet keeping his heavy hitting, glitching drops as always. I’m telling you now that Spectrum is going to blow up this summer, it has the entire recipe for a summer-electro anthem, just watch. Last night at 9pm on the dot, the lights dropped and the bass started bumping for Pretty Lights‘ set at Free Press Summer Fest in Houston. The stage was packed, the crowd filled up the entire hillside all the way to the top, it was unlike any other Pretty Lights concert I had ever seen. Derek played some crowd favorites and set a good pace with all sorts of hip-hop influenced sounds until he finally unleashed the biggest surprise at all, a guest appearance from the original UGK member, Bun B. Bun B always reps Houston hard and every concert I go to it seems that he always makes a guest-showing for a track or two. In this particular instance, Pretty Lights was banging his popular tune Finally Moving and Bun B came running out and spit a dirty freestyle. Today I have an INSANE new song from Big Gigantic, this time remixing Adventure Club’s track “Do I See Color.” The two took AC’s smooth electronic based song and turned it into an absolute banger with plenty of heavy hitting drops and a catchy saxophone in the background holding the beat together. The Boulder based electronic trio, Savoy finally dropped their highly anticipated track “We Are The Sun” earlier today. Along with the massive electro anthem, they included their own dubstep remix, which is insane to say the least. Savoy impressed me with both of these, especially the incredible way they incorporated Heather Bright’s great voice in some heavy hitting beats on both versions of the song.
